Education For All
Education For All
Education should be provided for all citizens of a country regardless of race, religion, wealth status ect. Other than the mandatory primary education and the increasingly valued secondary education, I think it's time for us Malaysians to look into the higher one, the tertiary education of this country.
First of all, pre-university like matriculation and foundation courses provided by all of the local universities should be openly applicable and accessible to all SPM (Malaysian Certificate of Education) leavers, and the intake should be based on their academic and extra curricular performance, not races.
Just because the colonialist implemented the 'divide and rule', the racial and regional segregation on Malaysians, decades ago and the policies associated with it favored people of certain race, the Chinese in this case, but it doesn't mean that the other unfavored race groups should take a revenge on the benefited one following the end of the colonial era.
I'm saying this completely not because or on behalf of my race group, though it triggered my realisation on this issue, but I'm insisting and having faith in the equality in education because and simply because of human rights. I believe that it is a basic human rights and not a privilege to be educated on the land from where one is raised and by parents who reside and contribute to this country. Education shouldn't be used as a political tool for the favor of the ruling political parties against the innocent youngsters.
There's too many non-Bumiputera SPM leavers who end up with no or inequivalent chance of higher education. The old conservative politicians love using mantra like the Chinese are all rich, but let's be honest, are they all? If nine out of ten youngsters are able to afford a place in the private colleges but one has to pay for the price of the conventional policy made and be excluded from the higher education and literally has his/her life ruined, is it still a fair play? Despite having the other unaffected, but upsetting one out of ten or even a hundred for a nonsensical reason is still a failure of a country leader.
'Do not ever neglect the power of knowledge and the importance of education, the dumb and selfish ones would tell you to look the other ways and make another way around, only the true ones can tell.'
